The 4-year BS programme allows students the freedom to choose and study a wide range of subjects, both within their major and minor as well as general education courses to follow their diverse interests. While selecting a major provides them with a strong foundation in one concentrated area of study, the option to choose a minor from related disciplines can help them widen both their knowledge base and skill sets to follow a range of career options in their desired field.

The BS programme aims to develop graduates with critical thinking and other 21st-century skills such as creativity, collaboration, critical thinking and communication, as well as problem-solving skills rated highly by employers. This will provide them with the cutting-edge skill set required to fulfil the changing requirements of the workforce in this fast-changing technological world.

Mission

Our mission is to offer a versatile and comprehensive BS English programme that cultivates a broad-based understanding of Linguistics and Literature and enables students to embrace and appreciate diversity alongside other 21st-century learning skills.

Course requirements and structure

Courses from the HEC-approved curriculum for BS English will be used along with approved courses offered by the College of Media Sciences for the BS in English and Media Studies programme with relevant changes and additional General and Elective Courses as approved by the Ziauddin University Academic Council.

Please note:

  • The Foundation courses are mandatory for all students.
  • Depending upon the results of the entrance test, the students will need to study up to two non-credit courses in years 1 and 2 to improve their English language skills. It will be mandatory for students to pass these courses. 
Learning and Teaching

Our teaching, based on principles of holistic education, promotes student-centred learning and active participation through collaborative discussion. 

Assessment

Assessment will be done through classroom-based tasks (40%) and mid-term/final exam (60%).

Attendance

Attendance in classes is mandatory. You will need a minimum of 80% attendance in a course to sit for the final exam. 

Intermediate/A Levels (or equivalent) with a minimum of 45% (or equivalent) marks in the last exam.

Our graduates will be lifelong learners and able to join the workforce in diverse professions and enterprises in the corporate sector, public sector or social sector. Generally preferred fields are business, bureaucracy, journalism, film and social media, copywriting, public relations, and teaching and research.  

Graduates will develop advanced skills in critical thinking, literary analysis, and effective communication. They will gain proficiency in academic and creative writing, rhetoric, and research methodologies. The programme enhances understanding of linguistics, world literature, and cultural studies, fostering appreciation for diverse perspectives. Students will learn to construct well-reasoned arguments, interpret texts critically, and apply theoretical frameworks. The curriculum also emphasises adaptability, problem-solving, and ethical reasoning, preparing graduates for careers in education, publishing, media, and research. By the end of the programme, students will be equipped to engage with language and literature in meaningful, professional, and academic contexts.

The University reserves the right to increase the fees if required according to the recommendation of the Governing Body. Advance fees to be paid semester-wise. All dues need to be cleared within two weeks of commencement of the academic year. A 2% surcharge per month will be levied on outstanding fees after the due date.
