College of Education at Ziauddin University, a highly regarded institution in the field of education, we are committed to providing exceptional academic programmes and fostering the development of future educators. In our programmes, we provide a comprehensive curriculum that combines theoretical knowledge with practical teaching experiences. Mission

The mission of the Ziauddin College of Education is two-fold:

  1.  To excel in enhancing the scholarship of teaching and learning, thereby setting a national standard of academic excellence in education. 
  2.  To provide leadership in service and outreach initiatives by actively engaging schools to foster communities of practice for teachers and bolster school development programmes.
Goals
  • Help to prepare teachers recognized for the quality and significance of their teaching, research, scholarship, service, outreach, and leadership.
  • Enhance the commitment of faculty, staff, and students to promoting diversity, social justice, and democratic citizenship.
  • Provide leadership in the development of collaborative, professional relationships with schools, organizations, and other institutions focused on the improvement of education in schools, communities, and workplace settings.

Governance and Structure

The College of Education is part of the Faculty of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences (FLAHS). The Principal in consultation with the Dean (FLAHS) makes all independent decisions pertaining to the academics, budget, staffing, and other administrative matters. The College of Education has a Board of Studies, chaired by the Principal and comprising both internal and external members.  All COE programs, after approval by the Board of Studies, are presented to the Academic Council of Ziauddin University for endorsement.

Rana Hussain

Profile

Rana Hussain has earned her M.Ed. from the University of Toronto and her Bachelor in Education from Pakistan. She served as Minister of Education, Sindh, in the Sindh Province in the caretaker set up prior to the 2023 General Elections. She has also served the Aga Khan University for over 35 years as head of many departments. Her current profile comprises the role of Director Ziauddin Examination Board in the capacity of Director Curriculum. She also serves as the Principal, College of Education Ziauddin University North Nazimabad Campus. Her teaching career spans over four decades of enriched experiences and training, nationally and internationally. She has earned many educational development projects too. Currently, she is also running as the Chief Consultant of many educational projects representing Ziauddin University in collaboration with the Government of Sindh.

Dr. Nuzhat Naz

Profile

Following the footprints of her father, Prof. Dr. Ghulam Khawaja, Dr. Nuzhat Naz has made many contributions as an educator, researcher and writer. She earned a PhD (Education) from Hamdard University and a Postdoc from International Islamic University Islamabad. In addition to MEd, she also holds MA (Urdu) and MA (Special Education) degrees. Alongside Early Childhood Education, her area of interest has been educational development as well as teacher training. Dr. Naz is working as a tutor at Allama Iqbal Open University for over two decades and has written two chapters in the books for BEd students. She has been a project consultant and writer for primary-level books of Maths and Social Studies at New Century Education Karachi. She has presented papers at various research conferences, and her research articles have been published in national and foreign research journals. Dr. Naz is currently serving as Assistant Professor at the College of Education, Ziauddin University, imparting knowledge and guiding the scholars in their academic journey. 

Dr. Syeda Aliya Fatima

Profile

Dr. Syeda Aliya Fatima is a distinguished educator, researcher, and academic leader. She holds a PhD in Education from Greenwich University, Karachi. Currently, she is engaged as an Assistant Professor at Ziauddin University College of Education. Dr. Fatima has extensive experience in higher education, playing roles as leader, instructor, research supervisor, and teaching practice supervisor in universities. Dr. Fatima is an active researcher, focusing on critical issues in education, including homeschooling, social development, and gender studies. Her work has been published in journals recognised by the Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan, as well as international publications. Her research contributes significantly to the academic discourse and the ongoing development of educational practices in Pakistan. 

Ms. Sahar

Profile

Ms. Sahar is a distinguished IT expert in educational systems and holds extensive exposure in manifesting ICT-based developmental programmes. She is a senior lecturer in Digital Literacy and works at the College of Education, Ziauddin University, as an Academic Coordinator of Undergraduate Studies. She is an educational technology specialist with additional background in MS Information and Technology & Economics. Ms. Sahar is also a certified teacher trainer of the University of Cambridge. She holds a distinction in Diploma in Teaching and Learning- University of Cambridge. With more than 22 years of experience, Ms. Sahar is a dynamic professional and has been working with renowned institutions around the country. Highlights of her career include trainings for educational technology, focused Pedagogy and its effective implementation through technology-embedded curriculum (Planning, Assessing and Instructional Designing) and Inclusive teaching & learning as a CPD instructor. A specialist in digital transformation, Ms. Sahar is utilising technology influencing cultural change and managing the syllabus through Project-Based & Inquiry-Based Learning and assessing. She has extensive exposure as a trainer for MOOC, blended learning and Hybrid and Hyflex teaching practices. 

Prof. Dr. Muhammad Yousuf Sharjeel

Profile

Prof. Dr. Muhammad Yousuf Sharjeel serves as Director Postgraduate Studies at the College of Education. He earned his first PhD in Psycholinguistics from Iqra University. His second doctoral study specialisation courses include learning difficulty in special education context from the University of Karachi. He also earned his postdoc from the International Islamic University, Islamabad with a concentration on Islamic entrepreneurship. He received his teaching license from the Ministry of Education Abu-Dhabi and taught in various United Arab Emirates. Dr. Sharjeel has also trained many public and private university faculty members as trainer in the areas of testing and item development as part of HEC-NTS training programme. He has supervised 12 PhDs, 85 MPhils and published more than 75 research articles in many national and international research journals. Dr Sharjeel also worked as an ELT specialist in various international destinations, including Bangkok, Dubai, Abu Dhabi and other United Arab Emirates. He is also a distinguished faculty trainer in the fields of psychological testing and item construction. His areas of specialisation include ELT, Educational Research, Test Development, Teacher Education and Statistical Inference.
